Just dropped my son off at Band Camp. Today marks 1 1/2 weeks of 9am - 6 pm of working on marching moves and the new music as he prepares to play his first year at the high school. And I was pondering how all those music classes have paid off even up to now. Being "with the band" has many benefits. He is learning so many lessons about music (and they will apply for LIFE!):
1. Follow the leader: Whether it's your band director or the drum major, keep time by watching. Focus, focus, focus.
2. Do what you do well: Play your instrument to the best of your ability, giving 110%. You have your part to contribute for the whole body.
3. Harmonize with others: Stick to your note. It won't be the same as everyone else's, but stick to your part and the music will be in tune.
4. Commitment: You are "with the band" and you'll be missed if you aren't in your spot. Be faithful and dependable. Others are counting on you.
5. Be involved: There is comfort in community, and having the social skills will pay off - whether it's starting at the high school or beginning a new job. Social development is important.
6. Music makes life better! It's fun and such a part of who we are. It makes the ball games more fun, the dances more complete, and will help with your math and language, too!
Back to school means that Kindermusik is starting, too. I'd better get busy getting ready for our first class. Let your child be prepared. Join us for a class this fall.
With a song in my heart,
Mrs. Cyndi
